Renewal Process

The ABSNP Office will send current diplomates a renewal notice 30 days prior to the due date of their certification renewal.

The Diplomate in School Neuropsychology Certification is valid for one year from the initial issuance date. In order to maintain an active status with the board, Diplomates in School Neuropsychology must obtain 6 hours of CEUs/CPDs by the anniversary date of their credential date. There is also a $75 annual renewal fee.

What Are Appropriate Continuing Education (CEU) or Continuing Professional Development (CPD) units?

The emerging subspecialization of school neuropsychology is rapidly advancing. Every year there are advances in assessment and intervention techniques and practitioners need to remain current. There are several ways to remain current in the field including attending professional development conferences such as:

  • ABSNP National School Neuropsychology Conference (generally held in the summer each year)
  • Nelson Butters West Coast Neuropsychology Conference (generally held in the spring each year in San Diego)
  • Learning and the Brain Conferences (holds a west coast and east coast conference yearly)
  • National Academy of Neuropsychologists (hold an annual conference in November)
  • A school neuropsychology related topic at the National Association of School Psychologists or the American Psychological Association conferences.
  • A school neuropsychology related topic at your state school psychology or psychology association conferences.
  • Online CEU/CPD workshops.

Diplomates must submit documentation of completion of 6 hours of CEU/CPD units and send them with a check for $75 to the ABSNP annually.

If a Diplomate chooses not to renew their credential, they are required to send back their Diplomate certificate to the board and their name will be removed from the active list of Diplomates. It is unethical to claim Diplomate status in the board unless the membership is maintained.
